“Real Rocky” Chuck Wepner speaks about upcoming biopic…
[x_pullquote cite=”Grandmaster Vincent Marchetti” type=”right”]”Chuck is the toughest warrior and best friend I could ever have […] he never had a trainer until he fought Muhammed Ali. Chuck fought everybody and even fought an 8-foot bear… twice. He got into the ring with the baddest of the bad. He is a true hero to America, boxing and everybody he knows.” [/x_pullquote]
Always happy to support his good friend, Grandmaster Vincent Marchetti accompanied KMA Black Belt Chuck Wepner in August to Jarvis Hall in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea. Chuck had been invited to speak about the movie “The Bleeder”, his life in and out of the ring and participate in a Q&A.
In addition to the Q&A, Chuck Wepner also signed autographs and posed for pictures with those who attended. Broward County Sherrif Larry Klarman also arranged for donated boxing gloves to at the event. These gloves now bearing Wepner’s signature were later auctioned off to benefit the local Boys and Girls Club.
Those of us who have had the pleasure of spending time with him can tell you that Chuck Wepner is an engaging and entertaining storyteller. The audience thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to hear about his life and some of his toughest fights including Sonny Liston, George Foreman, Ernie Terrell and of course Muhamed Ali.
It is the Ali fight that has once again brought Chuck Wepner, who was known as “The Bayonne Bleeder”, to the big screen. The first time was when the Ali fight inspired Stallone to pen “Rocky” whose titular character drew heavily from Wepner’s life. More recently Chuck Wepner himself is the focus of a film. “The Bleeder” is a biopic based directly on his life, telling his story for audiences who may not know the man behind several of the most incredible moments in boxing history.
A hit at both the Toronto and Venice film festivals “The Bleeder” is scheduled general release April 23rd of 2017. Grandmaster Marchetti will by on the Red Carpet with Chuck Wepner for the premier. We encourage everyone to go see “The Bleeder” when it is released!
